Ask for a deposit when a quote is approved
Require a percent or dollar deposit on a quote. With Stripe connected, your customer pays it by card as they approve.
- Who can do this
- People with the Create & edit quotes permission
A deposit is part of the quote total that your customer pays up front. The rest is due after the work is done.
- Step 1: In the quote builder, find Deposit under the total in Totals and click Add.
- Step 2: Choose % of total or $ amount and type the value.
- Step 3: Check the line under it. It shows the deposit and what's left after completion.
- Step 4: Send the quote. The deposit is saved when you click Save, Preview or Save & send.
How your customer pays
If Stripe is connected, the approve button on your customer's quote reads Approve & pay, with the deposit amount. They type their name, then pay by card. The quote is approved only once the payment goes through, and the deposit is recorded as a paid invoice. When you click Create invoice on the approved quote, the deposit is credited.
If Stripe isn't connected yet, the send window warns that the deposit can't be paid online. Your customer can still approve, and they're told you'll collect the deposit separately. The account owner can click Connect Stripe, then send right there.
Tip: With packages, a percent deposit is worked out on the total of the package your customer picks.
Good to know: If Customer pays the fees is on in Settings › Payments, the card charge includes those fees on top of the deposit.
