Connect Stripe to take card and bank payments
Connect a Stripe account so customers can pay your invoices online by card or bank transfer, straight from the link you send.

MakeHay takes online payments through Stripe. Setup takes about five minutes. Have your business details and the bank account for your payouts ready.
- Step 1: Go to Settings › Payments.
- Step 2: Click Connect Stripe. Stripe's setup page opens.
- Step 3: Fill in what Stripe asks for. Some of your details from Settings › Company may already be filled in.
- Step 4: When you finish, Stripe brings you back to MakeHay.
Once the page says Accepting online payments, every invoice link shows a pay button. Customers can pay by card or by ACH bank transfer.
If setup isn't done yet
- Stripe setup isn't finished: the page lists what Stripe still needs. Click Resume Stripe setup. Stripe keeps what you already entered.
- Stripe is reviewing your details: nothing to do. It usually takes a few minutes, sometimes a day or two.
- Stripe couldn't approve this account: Stripe's support team can tell you why. Sign in at dashboard.stripe.com to reach them.
Online payments carry a 1.5% platform fee plus Stripe's processing fee. Checks and cash you record yourself are free. You can have your customer pay the fees instead.
Tip: The first time your Stripe account can take payments, No MakeHay branding becomes free for 3 months. See Remove MakeHay branding.
Tip: You can also connect while sending an invoice. Click Connect Stripe, then send, and Stripe brings you back to that invoice.
Good to know: Payouts, disputes and payment details live in your Stripe dashboard, not in MakeHay.
Good to know: Not using Stripe? Fill in Remit-to instructions in Settings › Company. Invoices then show your check instructions instead of a pay button.
