Free satellite measurement tool — measure any property from above
Enter an address, trace the area, and get square footage, linear feet, perimeter, and counts in seconds — parking lots, driveways, roofs, lawns, fields, and job sites. Anything you'd otherwise drive out to measure.
Type a US address above — or just pan and zoom to the property.

How it works
How to measure any property from satellite
Five steps from address to bid-ready numbers — no site visit required for the first pass.
- 1
Enter the property address
Type the property's street address with city and state, hit Measure, and the satellite view loads centered on it — or skip the search and pan straight to the site.
- 2
Trace the area
Switch to the measure tool and click the corners of the area — pavement, roof, lawn, driveway, whatever you're bidding. The square footage updates live with every point you drop.
- 3
Read sq ft — or switch to meters
The readout shows square feet by default; tap the unit toggle for square meters. Trace extra sections and the totals add up automatically.
- 4
Close the shape for perimeter
Click back on your first point to close the shape and get the perimeter — handy for curb lines, crack routing, fence runs, and gutters. Leave a line open to measure straight lengths instead.
- 5
Count stalls or items
Switch to the count tool and tap each stall, tree, post, or fixture. If the current imagery has cars or shadows in the way, flip to an earlier imagery year for a cleaner look.
One map, three measurements
Everything a bid needs from one trace.
Area in sq ft
Trace any outline — pavement, roof, lawn, driveway, a whole site — for square footage; multiple sections total automatically.
Lengths & perimeter
Measure crack runs, curb lines, fence lines, and gutters in linear feet; close a shape to get its perimeter.
Stall & item counts
Tap every stall, tree, post, or fixture on the satellite view for a per-unit count — striping, tree work, fencing, whatever you bid each.

Any property
Parking lots, roofs, lawns — one tool.
Parking lot measuring tool
Trace the pavement for sealcoat square footage, measure crack runs and curb lines in linear feet, and tap each stall for a per-stall striping count — the numbers a pavement bid needs, without the site visit.
Measure a roof from satellite
Trace the roof outline for plan-view square footage, then multiply by your pitch factor for true surface area (about 1.05 for 4/12, 1.12 for 6/12, 1.20 for 8/12). MakeHay measures the footprint; it does not detect pitch or facets.
Lawn size calculator
Trace the front, back, and side yards as separate shapes and the tool totals the square footage. Outline a pool, shed, or bed as its own shape and subtract it. Close a shape for the perimeter — handy for edging and fence runs — and rewind the imagery for a leaf-off view of bed edges.
FAQ
Measuring questions, answered.
How accurate is the satellite measurement?
Close enough for a first-pass bid. The tool measures on high-resolution Esri satellite imagery, so a careful trace gives you square footage, lengths, and counts without the drive out. Verify on site for anything where inches matter — ADA stall dimensions, for one — before you commit.
Can I measure square footage for a sealcoating bid?
Yes. Enter the address, trace the pavement outline, and the square footage reads out live as you click. Trace multiple sections — drive lanes, islands, side lots — and the tool totals them. Switch to square meters with one tap if that's how you bid.
Can I count parking stalls?
Yes. Switch to the count tool and tap each stall on the satellite view. The running count is exactly what you need for a per-stall striping quote or a restripe layout — and the same tool counts trees, posts, or fixtures for any per-item estimate.
Can I measure a roof from satellite?
Yes, in plan view. Trace the roof outline for its footprint square footage, then multiply by your pitch factor for true surface area (about 1.05 for 4/12, 1.12 for 6/12, 1.20 for 8/12). MakeHay measures the footprint; it does not detect pitch or facets.
Can I measure my lawn's square footage?
Yes. Trace the front, back, and side yards as separate shapes and the tool totals them. Outline a pool, shed, or planting bed as its own shape and subtract it from your total. Close a shape for the perimeter — handy for edging and fence runs — and flip to an earlier imagery year for a leaf-off view of bed edges.
Does it cost anything?
No. The satellite measurement tool is completely free — no login, no credit card, no trial clock. Measure as many properties as you like.
Can I save my measurements?
Saving is what MakeHay itself does: measurements attach to the property, areas, lengths, and counts flow straight into line-item quotes, and the quote becomes an invoice after approval. Create a free account and your measurements start working for you today.
Does it work outside the US?
Address search covers US addresses today, but the satellite imagery is worldwide — pan and zoom to any property in Canada or anywhere else and trace it the same way. Inside MakeHay, Canadian addresses are supported — postal codes, provinces, and Canadian time zones — though weather forecasts are US-only for now.
Can I use the satellite measurement tool on my phone?
Yes. The tool runs in any modern browser — iPhone, Android, or desktop — with nothing to install. It's built mobile-first, so you can pull up a property and trace it on site or from the office.
