Check whether your customer got your email
Each quote and invoice shows whether your email was delivered, opened or bounced, a copy of what went out, and when the customer viewed it.
- Who can do this
- People with the View quotes or View invoices permission. Re-sending needs Send quotes or Send invoices & reminders.
Open the quote or invoice and look at its Activity card. It lists the emails sent to your customer and when they viewed it.
What the email rows say
Each email row names the address it went to and how it went:
- sent: it went out, with no word yet on whether it arrived.
- delivered: the customer's email provider accepted it.
- opened: the customer opened the email.
- bounced: the email came back undelivered. Check the address.
- failed: the email couldn't be sent.
- not confirmed: the send didn't finish, so don't count on it arriving.
Bounced, failed and not confirmed show in red.
Click View email on a row to see a copy of what went out. If no copy was kept, you see how the email reads today.
When they opened it
A Viewed by customer row appears when the customer opens the quote or invoice link, at most once an hour, with the device when it's known, like on an iPhone. A sent quote changes to Viewed, and an invoice that isn't paid in full shows a Viewed badge.
Tip: To get an email the first time a customer opens one, turn on Quote viewed or Invoice viewed in Settings › Notifications.
If the email bounced or failed
A quote shows a red badge next to its number. An invoice shows a red Email bounced or Email failed banner with the address it tried.
- Step 1: Click Re-send on the quote or invoice.
- Step 2: Correct the address in To on a quote, or Recipient email on an invoice.
- Step 3: Click Re-send quote or Re-send invoice.
On an invoice, the address you send to becomes its Billing email. A quote's To box starts with the customer's Main email, so fix that too: click Edit on the customer's page. See Change a customer's details and contacts.
Tip: No working email? Click Get link in the same window and text the link instead. See Text or print an invoice link instead of emailing it.
Good to know: If an email says delivered but your customer can't find it, ask them to check their spam or junk folder.
