Plan around the weather
Set weather rules for work that can't take rain or cold, then see warnings on visits and clearer days to move them to.
MakeHay checks each visit's forecast against weather rules you set. A job needs a job site with an address to get a forecast.
Set up a weather rule
- Step 1: Go to Settings › Services and click New rule in the Weather rules card.
- Step 2: Give it a Name. Under During the service, fill in any of Max rain %, Min temp °F and Max temp °F. Leave a box blank to skip that check.
- Step 3: For work that needs time to cure or dry, set Window hours and Window minutes under After the service, and the limits that apply during that window.
- Step 4: Click Create rule.
- Step 5: Edit a category or a service, pick the rule under Weather rule, and click Save category or Save service.
A rain limit warns when the chance of rain is at or above it, and 0 means any chance of rain. 20 to 40% is typical. A service's rule overrides its category's, and a rule set on a quote line overrides both. Categories and services without a rule get no weather checks.
See it on the calendar
- A visit whose forecast trips a rule gets a weather badge: a raindrop for rain, a thermometer for temperature.
- Click a visit, or a job in the unscheduled tray, to paint that job's forecast across the calendar. Green days are clear for it and red days trip a rule. Each day shows a weather icon, the high and the chance of rain when there's room.
- For a scheduled or in-progress job, the quick view lists the warnings and up to three clearer days in the next week or so. Tap one to move the visit there.
- On the job page, each visit lists its warnings under the rule that raised them.
Good to know: Forecasts reach about a week ahead. A visit further out shows that there's no forecast yet, and gets checked once the forecast reaches it.
Tip: Rained out anyway? Drag the visit to a clear day. On a repeating or multi-visit job you can also Skip it with the reason Weather.
Good to know: Weather rules need the Services & pricing permission.
