Text customers who said yes
With the Texting add-on, customers who agreed get quotes, invoices and reminders by text. How consent is recorded and how they opt out.
- Where
- Customers
- Who can do this
- Owners turn the add-on on; anyone who can edit customers records consent
Texting is an optional add-on. When it is on, the same messages MakeHay emails for you also go out as a text to customers who agreed to them: a quote is ready, an invoice was sent or is due, a visit is scheduled, and a thank-you with a review link. Nothing is ever texted to a customer who has not agreed.
How a customer agrees
Three ways, and none of them is ticked for anyone in advance:
- On your request form. Under the phone field is a box, Text me updates about this request, with the terms beside it. A visitor who ticks it has agreed; the request shows Agreed to text updates on the form, and when you turn the request into a customer the consent comes with them.
- When you add a customer. Once you type a US mobile number, a box appears: This customer agreed to get texts about their jobs. Tick it only if they told you so.
- On the customer's page. Switch OK to text on at the top, after they have told you it is fine, in person, on the phone or by email. MakeHay stamps who switched it on and when.
From then on their texts arrive from MakeHay's number. Each one names your business, ends with Sent via MakeHay. Reply STOP to opt out., and is a single short message: quote sent, quote reminder, invoice sent, invoice reminder, visit reminder, review request and the autopay set-up link. There are no marketing texts and no free-form texts.
How a customer stops
- They reply STOP to any text. Texts to that number end at once, for every business on MakeHay, and the switch on their page shows Opted out of texts. Only they can turn texts back on, by replying START.
- They reply HELP and get a short note saying who sends the texts and how to stop.
- You switch OK to text off on their page at any time.
When texts go out
The moment the quote, invoice or reminder goes; there is no waiting window, since these are updates about the customer's own job. Each business sends up to 1,000 texts a month with the add-on; past that, 500 more are added for $9 at a time, up to a limit you set under Automations.
Good to know: Any reply other than STOP, START or HELP is forwarded to you by email, so a customer who answers a text reaches you.
