Quotes and measuring

Measure a property from satellite

Trace areas, lines and counts on satellite imagery, save them to the job site, and put the numbers straight into quote quantities.

Measure square feet, linear feet or a count of items without driving out. Measurements are saved to the job site, so they're there for later quotes too.

  1. Step 1: Open a draft quote that has a job site and click Measure site above the line items. The satellite map opens. You can also click Measure next to a job site on the customer's page, or on a job.
  2. Step 2: Choose the Measure tool and tap each corner of the area. Tap your first point again to close the shape into an area with its perimeter. To measure a line instead, double-tap or click Finish line.
  3. Step 3: Keep drawing to add more shapes to the same measurement. Use Cut out to take an island or flower bed out of an area.
  4. Step 4: To count things, choose Count and tap each item. Drag a marker to move it.
  5. Step 5: Use Undo to remove the last point, or Clear to start over. Expand gives you a full screen map.
  6. Step 6: Click Save measurement, change the name if you like, and click Save.
  7. Step 7: On a quote, saved measurements are listed under the map. Click Use in line, then pick the number you want (area, length, perimeter or count) and the line it belongs on. That line's quantity fills in.

Tip: A quantity filled from a measurement stays linked. If you edit the measurement later with its pencil button, the line updates too. Typing a quantity by hand breaks the link.

Tip: The imagery menu above the map starts on Imagery: Current. Pick an older date to see the site as it looked then. On a phone the tools show as icons: a hand for Pan, a ruler for Measure and # for Count.

Good to know: Every saved measurement belongs to a job site. With no job site on the quote you can still search an address and measure, but you'll need to click Choose job site to save. Flat price lines have no quantity, so a measurement can't go on them.

Good to know: If the map says the job site isn't placed on the map yet, fix its address on the customer's page.
