How quote and invoice numbers work
Quotes and invoices are numbered for you, each counting up from 1. See what uses a number and how to find a quote or invoice by its number.

- Quotes and Invoices
MakeHay numbers your quotes and invoices for you, and each has its own count. Your first quote is Quote #1, your first invoice is Invoice #1, and each new one gets the next number.
- The number shows at the top of the quote or invoice, and on your customer's copy.
- Duplicate as new draft gives the copy a new quote number.
- A deposit paid when a quote is approved is saved as its own paid invoice, so it uses an invoice number.
- A repeating job that bills after each visit makes one invoice per visit, each with its own number.
- Numbers are never reused. A deleted quote leaves a gap, and a voided invoice keeps its number.
Good to know: You can't pick a starting number or change a number. If you're moving from another system, your MakeHay numbers start at 1.
Find one by its number
- Type # and the number into Search, like #12. Quotes and invoices whose numbers start with it come up.
- On Invoices, type just the number, without the #, into the search box.
