Refund a customer's payment
MakeHay has no refund button. Refund online payments from your Stripe dashboard, and cash or checks yourself. The invoice doesn't change.
- Where
- Your Stripe dashboard, outside MakeHay
MakeHay doesn't have a refund button. How you give money back depends on how your customer paid.
Card and bank payments made online
Online payments go into your own Stripe account, so you refund them there.
- Step 1: Sign in to your Stripe dashboard at dashboard.stripe.com.
- Step 2: Find the payment and refund it.
Cash and check payments
Give the money back however you and your customer agree. MakeHay has no place to record a refund.
What MakeHay shows after a refund
- The invoice doesn't change. The payment stays under Payments received, and the invoice keeps its status, such as Paid.
- An invoice with payments can't be voided, and a refund doesn't change that.
Good to know: If the work came in under the deposit your customer paid when they approved the quote, the final invoice's total can't go below that deposit. Refund the difference in your Stripe dashboard instead.
Tip: If an invoice says it's overpaid, settle the difference with your customer directly. If they paid online, a refund in Stripe is one way to do it.
