What changes with MakeHay

Quote, schedule, get paid, come back.

Schedule around the weather, not despite it

Installs are ladder work in November, and takedowns are ladder work in January. A rule in MakeHay flags rain and a high below your minimum at each address, from the National Weather Service forecast, so you move the install before the crew is on the roof in sleet.

  • Rain and cold flags on install and takedown days, per address
  • Install and takedown scheduled as two visits on one job
  • Clearer-day suggestions when a booked day turns
  • Crew colors, so two trucks on two streets read at a glance
Two weeks of the MakeHay calendar with the forecast on each day: green days with low rain chances, and two red days with a rain flag on the visit scheduled there.
Step 1

Quote it before you leave the site

Trace the roofline and the walkway on satellite view for linear feet, then quote from your price book: roofline per foot, wraps per tree, ground stakes each. Offer roofline only, roofline plus trees, and the full display as three packages on one quote. The homeowner approves from their phone with the deposit collected in the same tap.

Three package cards on one MakeHay quote, with the recommended one highlighted, and the first line item priced below.
Step 2

Get paid without chasing

A deposit at approval, credited automatically. The balance goes out in one click after the install, with a card or bank pay link, and the takedown is already on the calendar. Overdue reminders go out on their own, and checks get recorded against the job.

An invoice as the customer sees it: the lines, the balance due, and a Pay online button with the bank-transfer option under it.
Step 3

Keep every customer for the re-do

A lighting customer renews every fall. Every property keeps its linear feet, the display it had, the photos you sent, and what it paid, so the renewal quote is one click and the install date is a drag.

The Job sites card on a MakeHay customer page: two sites, each with its own Measure button.
Step 4

Give every customer a portal

One private link per customer: messages with photos, documents you request, a heads-up on any contract waiting for their e-signature, and invoices they pay. No app, no password, free.

The client portal: Home, Messages, Docs, and Billing tabs, a Needs-you box with an estimate to review and a balance due, and the contractor's contact card.

Set up in ten minutes

What a holiday lighting business puts in on day one.

A starting point that matches how the trade bids and runs. Every item, rule, and follow-up is yours to rename, reprice, or switch off.

FAQ

Holiday lighting questions, answered straight.

Is it really free for holiday lighting installers?

Yes. Unlimited customers, quotes, scheduling, and invoices, free forever, not a trial. No monthly plan, no seat fees, and no credit card to start.

Can I measure a roofline without a site visit?

Yes. Trace the roofline and walkways on satellite view; the linear feet drop into the quote as the quantity. Try it free at makehay.io/satellite-measurement-tool.

How do install and takedown work on one job?

A job is made of visits. Schedule the install in November and the takedown in January on the same job, each with its own forecast and crew.

Can customers sign the seasonal agreement online?

Yes. Upload the agreement and request a signature; the customer signs from the emailed link on any phone, and the signed PDF lands in their documents.

How do renewals work?

Every property keeps its measurement, the display it had, and the price. Next fall, open the customer, reuse the quote, and send it; the approval link works the same way.

What's the catch for a lighting business?

No catch. The software costs us almost nothing per installer to run, so it is free, in December and in June. Online card and ACH payments carry processing costs, as they would with any provider.

See every trade we build for on the industries page, browse the full feature list, check pricing (it's free), or measure your next job on the free satellite measurement tool, no account needed.

Sell the season in October. Hang it on the dry days.
